I hope you are enjoying Buzziwog and all of the fun things going on here. This website has been designed to be an entertaining and educational site for children, parents, grandparents and teachers.
My name is Mary Jones and Buzziwog has been written under my pen name Nanny Elizabeth Stearns. I was born in Canandaigua, New York in the Finger Lakes area way too many years ago. As the middle child of a large family I quickly learned that a sense of humor came in pretty handy in dealing with my relatives. I was an introvert trapped in a large group of extroverts. To keep my sanity I lived in my books. I read every book I could as a child.
I am the mother of two children. Both of my children had learning challenges. One was ADHD, and the other Dyslexic. In an effort to help my children learn, and to help other children deal with learning challenges I decided to go back to school in my late 30's. My children were not alone. Our family's learning challenges included deafness, Tourret's Syndrome, ADHD, Dyslexia and Hyperactivity. I wanted to learn all that I could about these disorders and how to help children face these challenges.
Buzziwog's concept was born in 1994 while I was attending college. My Creative Writing course professor enjoyed my outline and made me promise to write the book. After years of procrastinating, I have kept my promise.
Upon graduating from SUNY Empire State College with a Bachelor's degree in Education Administration I worked at the Finger Lakes Community College in the Tech-Prep Program. One year later I relocated to Vero Beach, Florida.
In 2001 I met and married my wonderful husband Bill. Our family expanded with the addition of my two step-children and their families. We built a new home in Port St Lucie in 2004. We rapidly became the proud grandparents of thirteen. All of them are a true blessing and my inspiration. Listening to their stories, hearing about their antics and seeing the world through their eyes has been a great learning experience for me and Pap-Pap.
In March 2007 our family relocated to North East Tennessee. We are now living in the Tri-Cities area and enjoying all of the beauty of the Tennessee mountains, Caverns, fresh air and NASCAR!
